Volvo XC90 T8 Excellence Hybrid, the
luxury SUV's top-of-the-line variant and the country's first plug-in hybrid
SUV, has been launched in India at Rs. 1.25 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Showcased for the first time at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show, the XC90
Excellence is deemed the not only the 'most luxurious SUV in Volvo Cars'
89-year history' but is also one of the most expensive cars to be rolled out of
the Swedish automaker's stables.
It must be noted Volvo offers the
four-seat variant in select markets across the globe, such as Switzerland,
France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. It is being introduced only on the T8 petrol
hybrid variant and we have the exclusive review of the T8 hybrid for you
on our site too.
At the event, Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, "The
XC90 T8 Excellence sets industry benchmarks for the environment for the
environment-friendly efficiency and emission while enveloping customer in
first-class Swedish luxury.
It is not only a segment-first but
India's first plug-in hybrid SUV and we see a lot of interest from our more
affluent customers, who prefer to experience 'responsible' luxury." He
also mentioned that Volvo India has received about 50 pre-orders for the XC90
T8 Excellence.
Built on the company's modular Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the Volvo
XC90 Excellence's name, and the price for that matter, bespeaks of the
affluence on offer and then some. Among the myriad of extravagant features on
offer, one of the most distinguished are the individual
electronically-adjustable reclinable rear seats with massage & ventilation
functions, and added legroom with footrests.
These provisions are complemented by
ambient lighting, illuminated storage, a retractable control touchscreen,
folding tables, a refrigerator with bottle and glass holders, a heated/chilled
cup holder, and handmade crystal glasses from leading Swedish company,
Orrefors. Oh, and it also gets an Orrefors crystal gear shifter.
Volvo also offers a leather instrument
panel with contrasting stitching and distinctive leather detailing in blond or
charcoal with a colour co-ordinated headliner made of pure Nubuck textile on
the four-seater Excellence.
For entertainment, the car benefits from a
specially-augmented Bowers & Wilkins audio system and additional sound
insulation via the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System tyres (PNCS). Outside, the
Volvo XC90 Excellence sports chrome B- and C-pillar cappings and lower door
mouldings as styling differentiators.
The AWD Volvo XC90 Excellence
derives power from the company's T8 Twin-Engine Plug-in Hybrid Electric
powertrain (2.0-litre supercharged and turbocharged petrol engine + 9.2kWh
Lithium-ion battery).
Mated to an 8-speed automatic
transmission, the SUV offers a combined power output of nearly 402bhp and
develops a maximum torque of 640Nm. For safety, it receives the same provisions
as the XC90 T8 Inscription, Momentum, and R-Design.
