Amritpal Singh helped India
script a historic win against China on Tuesday in the FIBA Asia Challenge in
Tehran. Despite trailing their opponents 27-18 during the second quarter, India
fought back superbly to register a 70-64 victory over the Chines thus keeping
quarter-final hopes alive.
India's Basketball team on Tuesday, won their second match over
higher-ranked opponents China in the FIBA Asia Challenge, in what was a
stunning victory. The Indians won the match 70-64 handing the Chinese their
first loss of the tournament.
After winning their opening
match against Philippines 91-83, the Indians scripted yet another fight back to
win the match in the second half. Previously, India managed to defeat China two
years ago in the FIBA Asia Cup and Tuesday's victory was made special by
Amritpal Singh who carried the team to the momentous victory with a superb
all-round performance.
The 25-year old, hauled down
14 rebounds, blocked 3 shots and had 3 steals, overall, sparking a 13-2
comeback in the second quarter, giving India a marginal lead by the end of the
first half.
With China leading 27-18 in
the second quarter, India tightened up their defense and went on the offensive,
stated a release from FIBA. The duo of Amritpal and Amjyot paired up to hand
India a slender 2-point advantage at the break with score reading 31-29 and
maintained the lead throughout the match.
The Indian defense remained solid from there on, forcing the
Chinese to commit errors and scored 22 points off turnovers. India will take on
Kazakhstan in their final group encounter tomorrow and aims to finish in the
top-four to qualify for the quarterfinals.
